Ransom Note Records are very excited to bring you the debut release from brand new duo, ILHA. Consisting of Canadian producer, African Ghost Valley, and Mozambican artist, Nandele, their inaugural release, Lava Around the Floating Island, is a masterclass in synthesised ambience.

Kicking off is lead single, MA118, which immediately sets the tone of the release, with celestial, atmospheric reverberations soothing our ears before the forward propulsion of the kick drum finally drops us into the mesmeric groove. The retro 80’s bassline is complimented by a lush sawtooth melody and metallic chords that drive this juggernaut ever onwards.

Tars is next out of the gate, dropping the pace a little and taking us on an excursion into the man-made wild, where brevity is key. A collage of acoustic and glitchy electronic sounds, it creates a slightly disconcerting mood, full of texture.

Seawall fades into view with a melancholic, distorted top line that gives way to more tender vintage synthesiser sounds that seem to lament a certain nostalgia for a bygone era. Its passionate chords tug slightly at the heartstrings, as it fades again from view, having imprinted its warmth upon the listener. Finally, Dirl brings proceedings to a close with its sparse drones and clattering, intermittent percussion hits, before morphing into and Acid-IDM workout at the coda, providing a sublime juxtaposition to the opening bars.
